BOBCATS

Bob   Bob

Bob is a young Northern bobcat.  He came to us from the group that trains animals for the Busch Gardens animal shows.  Bob was sent to us because he has a seizure disorder which left him unable to be an on-stage cat.  Since Bob joined the Panther Ridge family, he has had several seizures.  He was also diagnosed with fibrotic lung disease, which causes him to overheat easily and makes it difficult for him to cool down easily. He is now on his third epilepsy drug.

At his young age, Bob has a team of veterinarians, both traditional and alternative, who are overseeing his progress.  Because of the myriad of stimuli that can send him into a seizure, we felt it was best for Bob to live in a very controlled atmosphere.  Sadly for Panther Ridge, the decision was made to that he would have to live indoors permanently at the home of a former volunteer.  There, he is happy and more predictably healthy than he could have ever been in an outdoor environment (though he probably misses the "stalking" game captured in the photos at left).

In spite of today's faux furs, bobcats are still used for their pelts.  We think that Bob's magnificent coat looks best right where it is - on Bob.  He is the sweetest bobcat we have known
